The UK Black Business Entrepreneurs Conference kicks off Business Masterclass tour
The UK Black Business Entrepreneurs Conference (BBEC) kicked off the first leg of its highly anticipated Business Masterclass tour on Tuesday, 11 February, at the NatWest Conference Centre in Bishopsgate, London.
The theme of the BBEC Business Masterclass is ‘Building Capacity & Sustainability’. The masterclasses are tailored for individuals passionate about building successful businesses while embracing their cultural identity. This includes budding entrepreneurs seeking practical guidance on launching new ventures, as well as startup founders and seasoned business owners looking for expertise on how to grow and scale their businesses.
The first masterclass, which began at 9:00 am and concluded at 4:30 pm, attracted over 70 attendees, including both aspiring and established entrepreneurs. It was hosted by Dr Carlton Brown, managing director of Aspire Consultancy, author of the Black Entrepreneur Report and The Race Paradox: Why Organisations Fail on Race, and founder of the UK Black Business Entrepreneurs Conference.
The event featured informative sessions covering a range of business topics, including Pitching for Investment, Brand Visibility & PR, Business Strategy, and more. Among the speakers was a representative from supermarket chain Tesco, who offered advice on accessing supply chains; a representative from food manufacturer Kraft Heinz, who shared insights into marketing strategies; and a programme leader from the NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator, who spoke about accessing finance.
The event also included a Q&A panel discussion with business experts, as well as networking opportunities. For lunch, attendees were served African and Caribbean cuisine by NatWest’s catering team, with a menu featuring cultural dishes such as jollof rice, plantain, and okra.
Nick Howe, regional enterprise manager at NatWest, said: “Another fabulous event in London today with NatWest welcoming the UK Black Business Entrepreneurs Conference for their Masterclass series, with educational sessions covering pitching, supply chain opportunities, selling, and PR. Such a welcoming and eager audience of exciting founders to network with too.”
Dr Carlton Brown, founder of the BBEC, said: “It was great to see so many innovative and enthusiastic entrepreneurs striving to grow their businesses. It’s imperative that we provide access to knowledge, tools, and resources so that Black businesses can grow, navigate new opportunities within the supply chain, and embed best practices within their businesses. This allows them to scale, increase revenue, improve profitability, create jobs, and drive more sustainable businesses that contribute to the broader macro-economic landscape.”
