Senior regulatory hires boost financial services practice
Squire Patton Boggs has hired the former co-heads of the Governance, Risk and Regulation practice at Interpath Advisory into the firm’s Financial Services Practice Group in London. Federica Taccogna joins the firm as a principal and Nigel Webb as senior advisor.
“Having held senior positions at some of the world’s leading consultancies, Federica and Nigel bring extensive experience assessing and remediating financial crime concerns for institutions, regulators and governments around the world,” said Jim Barresi, global head of the firm’s Financial Services Group. “Their arrival brings together consulting and legal services under one roof to help us provide a full range of services to resolve disputes and inquiries our clients receive from industry regulators.”
Ms. Taccogna and Mr. Webb advise financial institutions, regulators and governments on matters of conduct, with a particular specialism in the gambling, online gaming, crypto and the payments sectors. They have extensive experience in financial crime regulation including anti-money laundering, sanctions, market abuse, fraud and anti-bribery and corruption. They also have experience in product and client governance and lifecycle management, mis-selling, suitability and appropriateness.
“Federica and Nigel’s experience and wealth of connections are synergistic with the work of our regulatory, Public Policy and Government Investigations and White Collar teams and their arrival will help us develop our offering across a number of practices,” added European managing partner Jonathan Jones.
A recognised regulatory expert with over 20 years’ experience, Ms. Taccogna has held numerous senior risk and compliance roles. She led the financial crime unit for a regulator, drafted the virtual assets regulation for a jurisdiction, and designed a Financial Crime risk management strategy and policy framework for a universal bank. She has conducted investigations for and served as a strategic advisor to the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) and Malta Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) on financial crime.
Mr. Webb’s varied 40-year career includes experience across all major continents in senior industry roles as well as senior consulting roles spanning front office and trading activities, as well as operations, technology and compliance. He was formerly a partner at both Andersen and Deloitte, and he was also global CIO at Interdealer Broker ICAP and head of risk and technology for JP Morgan’s Global Derivative Services.
“We have regularly come across Squire Patton Boggs in the course of our work and have been impressed by the global scale of the firm’s capabilities. I am very excited to join the firm and work with our colleagues around the world to provide an integrated approach to addressing issues of conduct for a range of clients,” commented Ms. Taccogna.
Mr. Webb added: “The firm’s collegiate culture and global connections makes it an ideal fit for our business, and we see real opportunity to establish a market-leading practice working across the firm’s integrated platform.”
Ms. Taccogna and Mr. Webb follow several senior hires made by the firm into its Financial Services Practice this year. Global Trade Finance partners Philip Prowse and Jameel Tarmohamed joined the firm in London in January, while in February the firm added senior advisors Daniel Rudder and Nathan Romano in New York to grow its consulting services to help asset managers navigate investment risk and enhance value. Financial Services lawyer Mona Ma was promoted to partner this year.
