Revealed: Finance professionals are some of the happiest in the UK
Do you feel happy on a daily basis? The UK’s leading independent job board, CV-Library, recently posed this question to the population and found that 58.7% of Brits do indeed feel happy every day, with this figure rising to a significant 61.7% amongst marketing professionals.
In fact, the study of 2,000 working professionals comes just in time for what leading psychologist, Dr Cliff Arnall, describes as the happiest day of the year*, and reveals that workers in certain industries are some of the happiest in the UK. The top 10 list includes:
1. Sales – 72.7%
2. Automotive – 70.7%
3. Recruitment – 70%
4. Design – 69.2%
5. Retail – 67.6%
6. IT – 66.7%
7. Marketing 63.6%
8. Finance – 61.7%
9. Customer Service – 60.8%
10. Property – 60%
Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library comments: “Happiness is at the heart of most aspects in life and the findings got me thinking about an article I read once which really resonated with me: it said that success isn’t the key to happiness, it’s happiness that’s the key to success. I agree that feeling good in ourselves makes it easier to achieve our goals, whether that’s in our personal or professional lives.”
Despite this, according to the data, while the average Brit (56.7%) enjoys their job, the findings reveal that nearly half (54.3%) of professionals working in finance dislike theirs.
Biggins concludes: “It’s important to remember that no-one can be happy all the time. Being able to make the most of the good times and cope effectively when life does get tough is crucial. If you are struggling, it’s important to not only seek professional help or talk to your loved ones, but also to really consider what’s making you unhappy. If you hate your job, maybe it’s time to look for a new one?”
