Essex law firm announces strengthened insolvency team
Essex law firm Birkett Long is delighted to announce the expansion of its Insolvency Team with the addition of Solicitor Charlotte Burkert to the Dispute Resolution department. Charlotte is based in the Colchester office and works alongside partner and head of the insolvency team, Kevin Sullivan.
Charlotte Burkert joined Birkett Long in 2019, working in Birkett Long’s commercial and corporate department. She progressed to a paralegal role within the dispute resolution department before starting her training contract in September 2021. During her training contract, she gained invaluable knowledge and skills in dispute resolution, working on matters such as contractual disputes, insolvency and director/shareholder disputes, private client and commercial and corporate. Charlotte qualified as a solicitor this year and has further developed her skills and knowledge by concentrating on contentious and non-contentious insolvency matters. Her interest in insolvency was sparked when she worked as a paralegal and trainee solicitor alongside Kevin within the dispute resolution team. She is delighted to have recently joined the Insolvency Team to focus on this area.
Charlotte studied for her Law degree at the University of Sunderland, obtaining a 2:1. She later completed the Legal Practice Course combined with a Masters in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Law in London, graduating in 2021 whilst working full time with the firm. Charlotte is also an Associate member of R3, the Association of Business Recovery Professionals.
While studying for her degree, Charlotte worked within a local law firm in its Prison Law and Criminal Defence Department, gaining valuable experience preparing for parole hearings, Crown Court trials and more. She also undertook a mini pupillage at a well-known chambers in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where she shadowed Counsel at a Crown Court trial. Additionally, Charlotte has volunteered as a court-based Witness Support with the Citizens Advice Bureau Witness Service, aiding prosecution and defence witnesses through the court process.
Partner and head of the insolvency team, Kevin Sullivan, a specialist in contentious insolvency law with over 20 years’ experience, is delighted that Charlotte has recently joined the team. He highlighted Charlotte’s skills and background in handling various dispute resolution and corporate matters during her time with Birkett Long, further enhancing the firm’s capabilities in all insolvency-related issues.
